About The Quilt

8x8 ft Barn Quilt – North Trail

Note: Brodie Farm, Windmill #39 also hangs on the south side of this barn

This quilt was added to the trail as part of Genesee County's commemoration of its location along the Path of Totality of the the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Prior to 2024, the last total solar eclipse over Genesee County was in 1925, and the next will be in the year 2144.

The design was inspired from an illustration in Genesee County's original children's storybook "Genny Sees The Eclipse" which featured our eclipse mascot Genny The Cow.  The informative and fun story takes place at the fictional Genesee Farm on April 8, 2024, when Genny the Cow and her farm animal friends experience the solar eclipse.

Genny the Cow is amazed by something special happening in the sky. When the Sun disappears and the sky suddenly darkens, the other animals head to the barn for bed. Genny explains that it’s not really nighttime, but a solar eclipse! After sharing safe viewing glasses with her friends, they experience the once-in-a-lifetime event together.

The barn quilt was replicated by Lynne Belluscio, Historian for LeRoy and founder of the LeRoy Barn Quilt Trail.  Local business Stafford Painters assisted Lynne with hanging the quilt in time to commemorate the eclipse.

To our delight, Forbes featured "Genny Sees The Eclipse" as one of the "Top 6 Books to Plan For the Solar Eclipse".  Orders for the books came in from across the country and 100% of book sales benefited four of Genesee County's animal rescue groups.

The book was written by Colleen Onuffer and illustrated by Andy Reddout.
